***PRESS RELEASE- MULTIPLE ARRESTS LAST NIGHT FOR ILLEGALLY POSSESSING FIREARMS***
FIRST INCIDENT: At approximately 9:45PM GIVE Strike Team units conducted a vehicle stop on the 1200 block of Seymour Ave. Upon approach to the vehicle they noticed it was occupied by three parties and they began to interview them.
During the course of the stop cause was found to conduct a search of the vehicle and the occupants. While doing so the officers located two loaded handguns in the vehicle. One was a JA Nine 9mm and the other a SKY 9mm. These guns were located under the driver and passenger seats.
At that point the three occupants were detained and brought to the station. At the conclusion of the investigation two adults and one 16 year old were charged. The 16 year old will not be named due to his age, but the same charges below were levied against him. The adults are:
Quamire Palmer age 19 of Utica Kaivon Hamell age 18 of Utica
All were charged with: Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Criminal Possession of a Firearm.
The weapon was also learned to be stolen out of Georgia. Additional charges are likely to be added once supporting documentation is received relative to the theft. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- SECOND INCIDENT:
At approximately 11:45PM Utica Police Patrol Division members were assisting Rome PD with attempting to locate an individual related to an assault investigation. The officers located this male and a female companion. As they were taking the male into custody, the female fled and officers followed. As they entered the rear yard they encountered the female and noticed that she had discarded a quantity of suspected cocaine.
The female was then detained and the officers conducted a more extensive search of the immediate area. As they were doing so they located a loaded .22 caliber handgun a short distance away.
This female was then too brought to the Utica Police Department. Once there she was interviewed and at the conclusion of the investigation Barbara Walter age 22 of Utica was charged with:
Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Criminal Possession of a Firearm
Additionally, narcotics related charges will be filed regarding the suspected cocaine.
