The Boilermaker Road Race has been cancelled for the first time in it's 43 year long history. The initial plan was to simply postpone the race, but with the covid-19 pandemic still very active, it would not be possible to protect the many thousands of participants.
On the Boilermaker Race updates page under FAQs, the page reads as follows "Due to safety concerns related to COVID-19, the 2020 Boilermaker has been converted to a virtual event...The inability to host the traditional Boilermaker severely impacts the financial health of the organization. Your decision whether or not to participate in this historic virtual version of the Boilermaker will directly influence the organizations ability to continue to exist and stage traditional Boilermakers in the years to come. With that in mind, we are asking that, if you are able, please consider participating in this virtual event or donating your 2020 registration fee to help secure the Boilermakers future."
