The Department of Transportation announced on Tuesday that the Higginsville Road Bridge was reopened after having been closed since 2008.
The bridge was closed in 2008 for reconstruction, but only in 2016 was the town of Verona awarded the funds, just under 5 million dollars, necessary for such a project.
The bridge was rebuilt with a 250-foot-long steel plate girder with two lanes and 5-foot wide shoulders.
The original bridge was built in 1908, and featured only one lane.
