Dozens run unofficial Boilermaker race despite cancellation

This year the official Boilermaker race was cancelled, and converted to a virtual event due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however on Sunday, dozens of people still showed to the striating line on Culver Ave.

Plenty of people showed up both to run the course and to offer support, giving water to the runners.

This was not an officially sponsored event, so there were no police blocking traffic. Though the racers were mindful, and nobody was injured.

People showed up for a multitude of reasons, the biggest being tradition. In interviews with local media, some runners said they had been running for over 20 years.
