JCPenney stores in Rome and New Hartford to close

Yesterday, JCPenney had said that 154 of their locations were to close in the near future. Among these locations, the stores in Rome and New Hartford. JCPenney Exec. Jill Soltau says this is part of a "store optimization strategy", "to emerge from Chapter 11 [bankruptcy protection], and the COVID-19 pandemic as a stronger retailer."

JCPenney is the last of the original anchor stores of the Sangertown Square mall in New Hartford, since it opened in 1980.

The Oneonta location will not be closing as of yet.
