Mohawk man facing multiple traffic related charges after crash in Rome


According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, On Saturday, November 7th 2020, a male was arrested following a motor vehicle accident in the City of Rome.

On Saturday, November 7th 2020, at about 5:02 AM, A Deputy assigned to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office DWI Enforcement Unit responded to the area of State Route 49 in the City of Rome to assist a zone patrol Deputy with a motor vehicle accident.

During the investigation, It was determined that the vehicle, a red in color Chevrolet Cruz, was traveling east bound on State Route 49 where the operator, Freddie J. Linen Jr 39, of Mohawk New York, failed to maintain control of his vehicle which caused him to the exit the roadway which ultimately caused him to enter an embankment off the southern shoulder of the roadway before coming to a rest.

During the course of the investigation, the Deputy noticed indicators of impairment by alcohol. Linen was ultimately put through standardized field sobriety testing which showed that Linen was impaired by alcohol.

Linen was subsequently taken into custody for driving while intoxicated where he was then transported to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement building where he was booked/processed for DWI.

After being booked/processed, Linen was released to a sober party. Linen is scheduled to return to Rome City Court at a later date. Linen was also issued 5 traffic citations which included him having a BaC over a .08.
