The office of Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri issued a statement on Friday regarding the future of the Northland Communications Building on Court Street. The City of Utica holds a majority ownership in the property, while the remainder is owned by Court Street Development Project. In the statement, Mayor Palmieri has said that it has made an offer on Court Street Development's portion of the property that is "above it's 2018 purchase price and in line with independent appraisal."
The City of Utica plans to begin Eminent Domain Proceedings on the property to acquire the remaining stake in the property.
The statement goes on to say that "The Urban Renewal Agency cannot market 84 percent of a building. Selling less than 100 percent of the building would be difficult if not impossible.”
A public hearing on the building is scheduled to take place on September 12.
