State Police Investigating a Fatal Wrong-Way vehicle crash in the city of Rome

State Police in Marcy is investigating a fatal head-on crash on the Erie Boulevard exit ramp from State Route 365 eastbound.
The preliminary investigation has determined a 2017 Ford Explorer, operated by Susan J. Caulfield, age 72 from Schenectady, NY was traveling the wrong way, southbound, on the Downtown Rome exit ramp leading to Erie Boulevard when she struck a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta, operated by Kelly J. Larrivey, age 55 from Liverpool, NY head-on.
Caulfield was not injured in the crash and was tested by a State Police Drug Recognition Expert who determined negative results for any drug or alcohol impairment.
Mrs. Larrivey was airlifted by Mercy Flight to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse with non-life-threatening injuries.
Marjorie E. Larrivey, age 88, a front-seat passenger was transported to Rome Memorial Hospital by Amcare Ambulance where she was later pronounced deceased.
The investigation is continuing.
State Police were assisted at the scene by the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office and the Rome Fire Department,
